How Meeting a Client on Vacation Led to a Career Opportunity

A couple of years after COVID, I decided to travel to Manali with my wife since we had been cooped up in our house during the lockdown. On our way there, we stopped in Delhi where I met with a freelance client called EPYC. I’d been working with them for a few years on brand and visual design.

During our meeting, I expressed my dissatisfaction with my current job and desire to build products instead of just creating presentations. Mayank, EPYC’s founder, unexpectedly offered me a position as a visual designer. We were only on vacation at the time but this chance encounter led to an incredible opportunity.

After returning home from our trip and considering the offer, I realized that they already knew me and my work — no interview needed! So, I accepted the job which ultimately changed my entire career trajectory.

Mayank and EPYC introduced me to product design and its importance. From his motivation, I launched Doodle Icons which gained traction online and on Product Hunt. This success led me to Twitter where now 10k followers(frens) support my work and have formed amazing friendships along the way.

All it took was one random trip for such a significant change in my personal and professional lives!
